Thumbnails broken 2007/04/19 09:03 Karma: 0
Pardon, i'm sure my ignorance of joomla will be apparent, but i'm having a great deal of difficulty and i'm hoping you can help. When clicked on, the files display fine, but the thumbnails are all broken images:

I've tried v1.1 through 1.8 with the same results.

Running Joomla 1.0.3 Stable [ Sunlight ]

Thanks!

Thanks for getting back to me!

I've tried setting the permissions to 444, 666 and 777 and they all seem to have the same result. Could it be permissions on some other folder/file?

write permission can vary with different hosts. SO check with your host what is the CHMOD for write permission on their server.

Ok do this!

Uninstall the plugin.

Goto joomla admin page
Global config > server

check all the boxes in file permission and directory permission for new files.

Install the plugin again.

In Joomla very often when you install the addons the permissions are owned by server and not user, this is called CHOW. Then even if you try to change the permission it is not changed because the files are not owned by you.

By above change, though it won't change the file ownership buut you will make sue the files are writable.

LEt me know if that helps

Still no luck i'm afraid. I went in with JoomlaXplorer and confirmed the write permissions on the file and the folder its in. Are there any other folders/files that require special permissions? Is v1.8 known to have any conflicts with older versions of joomla?

Thanks again for the help, you're being very patient.

I had the same problem as the thread starter. I tried every way to change the permission by ftp and joomla's server config. I am using older versions of the highslide gallery on different sites on the same server and never had this problem. 1.0 beta worked fine and so did 1.1. I just went and installed the 1.1 and now the shadow is working correctly.

Maybe the answer is in there somewhere.

In my opinion Your tumbs. weren't made becouse of wrong permissions.

Try this:
Folder containing images: 755 which is owner rwx, group rx, other rx

Images inside: 744 which is owner rwx, group r, other r

btw. my maketumb is set to 644 which is owner - rw, group and other as above

I had the same problem but I solved it by activating GD2 in php.
Follow this how-to and solve your thumbnail problems :

Look in /PHP/extensions and search a file called php_gd2.dll
If it's there, you may continue. Else you need to download it first.

Then if the file is in the folder, you open php.ini file...
search for the text "extension_dir"
A little bit lower you see a list of extensions.
look for: ;extension=php_gd2.dll
remove the ; sign to uncomment...
if you didn't see this line -> just add it...

Restart your server and you should be able to see your thumbs...

good luck
